It is almost 9 months since Redditch player Ash Mooney suffered a life changing injury on 2nd October 2021.

Ash and Vicky would like to make some thank yous and bring everyone up to date with his progress since that fateful day.

Firstly,  Ash will be ever grateful to the immediate care providers from Redditch RFC who were watching the match on the day. Bjorn Barrow, Luke Kerins, Emily Shotbolt and Leanne Bins raced to the scene of the tackle and followed every safe procedure until the paramedics arrived ensuring that Ash’s injuries were not increased.

There followed a long road to recovery where Ash received the best medical attention supervised and supported by the RFU Injured Players’ Foundation.

The GoFundMe page set up by Emily Shotbolt received an amazing amount of money from the rugby community and community at large and the money received has allowed Ash and his family to concentrate on his recovery without immediate financial pressures.

The Rugby contributors are listed below, and Ash can’t thank the Rugby Family, and especially the Injured Players’ Foundation, enough for the way they came together to support him in his hour of need.

Ash’s recovery has been remarkable thanks to excellent medical and physical care that he has been given, aided by his own massive determination to bring his life back to some degree of normality.

So, right now, Ash has regained the use of his limbs and is walking, talking and driving a car.

He has restarted his building business doing all the admin  and a little bit of onsite work, which is increasing as his strength and manual dexterity returns.

In time he hopes to restart his career in the Fire Service and this season he hopes to do a little coaching of the backs down at Redditch.

We wish Ash and Vicky every bit of luck as he continues on the road to recovery and thank everyone who has contributed to Ash’s recovery, including those of the Rugby Family listed below:
