Redditch returned to the winners' enclosure on Saturday with a hard fought win over visitors Old Halesonians 2nd.

On a day when 14 North Midlands' fixtures were either cancelled or postponed, Garry Mills and his team worked hard all morning to ensure that the surface was playable. Garry was adamant that the match wpold go ahead in a tribute to Hollie, relative of a player, who had sadly passed away long before her time. The match was preceded by a one minutes's applause and parade of the junior players. The team played in the Exiles Pink which was Hollie's favourite colour.

With snow falling the warm up on the sodden 2nd team pitch did not augre well, but the morning's work paid dividends as the main pitch held up well.

The temperature hovered around freezing as the Kingfishers went about their work in a methodical manner.

Two early penalties settled the nerves and the home team was never headed to come away with a convincing 23-14 win.

The match was won on unfaltering defence epitomised by the center pairing of Will Heath and Cal Razzak who got a little dirty through their efforts.

Full match report to follow.

Next week will see us try once more to play our away fixture against Upton on Severn. This match was originally scheduled for 16th December and has been scheduled several times since.

The vagaries of the weather have intervened each time and fingers are crossed that we will be able to play on Saturday.
