On a dry sunny day Redditch turned up in their new shirts proudly sponsored by Howden and Amco.
Running up the hill Redditch dominated the opening exchanges but a slight defensive lapse saw Tenbury run in the opening try.
From the kick off Tenbury attacked out wide again and ran in their second try. This 12 point lead was eventually to provide the winning margin.
Redditch fought back and scored then Tenbury scored and so it continued throughout the match with Tenbury having the final word to take the match 29-41 and seven tries to 5.
Last season Tenbury played two leagues above Redditch but due to player numbers had to withdraw from their league. This meant that they rejoined the leagues at our level with a core of players used to playing two leagues higher.
It was this group whose speed and skill level in the backs was the difference in the match.
Redditch showed off new recruits Jack Kelly, Elliot Williams, Phoenix McCann, Harry Irvine and Simon Millward and welcomed back returning players Joe Looker, Archie Beddard, Craig Dixon and Stu Brooks.
All of these meant we could field a full squad of 20 players and they all contributed well to the team effort.
Redditch left a couple of good scoring opportunities on the pitch and could easily have won this opening encounter against a team that should figure prominently at the end of the season.
