The rain held off as Redditch RFC welcomed a range of players and clubs to Bromsgrove Road for a Cross Sevens Tournament.

After some problems with transport Erdington and Aston Old Edwardians combined and the planned Barbarians team did not eventuate, leaving 8 teams to contest in two pools.

With 3 referees suopplied by the NMSRFR the games were played in the best of spirits and the results see sawed throughout the day.

Redditch Mayor, Ann Isherwood, was disappointed to have to leave at half time as she was really enjoying the day. She was replaced in the afternoon by Batchley & Brockhill Councillors Nyear Nazir and Lucy Harrison who were supporting their local club.

Teams entered were Portway Pirates(Birmingham and Solihull), Ruck till we Scrum (Malvern), Stourbridge, Erdington, Old Yardleians, Aston Old Edwardians, Flaming Unicorns, Lock.Prop and two Smoking Farrells (Redditch RFC and Redditch Rangers.

And the winners were a young and fit Portway Pirates who beat organiser Loran Abbotts' Lock.Prop and two Smoking Farrels in the final.

A big thank you to all the organisers, volunteers, referees and players who made it such a special day which we hope to repeat next summer.
