For most of Redditch's 1st XV a trip to Bishop's Castle is the stuff of legend.

In the shadow of Offa's Dyke, the ground at Bishop's Castle and Onny Valley, to give them the full title, is far removed from Redditch RFC.

The long walk from the changing rooms, pushing cars bogged in the field by the ground, removal of droppings somewhat bigger than dog's, and a welcome on the pitch and in the bar as ferociuous as any in the midlands.

That said Redditch are continuing to unearth great new talent as Chris Upton showed last week with strong bursts from the ruck and tidy lineout and scrum work.

A run of try scoring form has boosted them up the table, and recent good defensive efforts have been impressive.

Bishop's Castle have been very competitive especially at home and have collected a huge pile of losing bonus points which bely their table position.

For Redditch, it is just another opportunity to play our own game, trust in our systems and execute well. The home side will come out firing but Redditch must stick to their guns and make sure that we start and finish each period with full concentration.

After today you will be part of the legend.

Meanwhile, the 2nds will come out of the mud onto the 1st team pitch, to build on the encouraging performances at Stourbridge and at home to Claverdon last week. With firm ground underneath we will all be looking to show Stourport 2nds what we can do individually and working together as a team.
