Redditch RFC

26 - 5

(HT 14-5)

Evesham RFC

On a cold wet afternoon R raised the spirits of their loyal followers and came away with another bonus point win.  Considering the snow and rain in the run up to the game the pitch was in perfect condition for a fast open game which R managed to achieve scoring four tries and never looking to be any any real danger.

Will Heath scored the opening try, the build up took advantage of the dominance R had up front in the pack. driving runs from the forwards gained territory then the ball was released to the backs who switched it right and left opening up a gap for Heath to exploit.

Matt Allen and Craig Martin led by example, big carries wore down their opponents and with the game spread wide open a delicate chipped kick to the wing was snapped up by Aaron Atkinson to claim the second try, both were converted by Will Spires.

Evesham were stung into action, a spell of sustained pressure saw them create space wide left to score but the kick went wide.

The second half, though competitive was marred once the rain settled in with passes not reaching their mark, the packs had more than their fair of scrums and a few injuries unsettled the rhythm of the game. Harvey Habgood made the game safe with a delightful shimmy to glide through the cover defense and soon afterwards following another dominant driving maul WH dotted down for his second try and a bonus point in the bag.

Flanker Clarke Parker was selected as Player of the match though the accolade could have gone to many others in the squad, the team is gelling into a formidable unit who finish their league campaign this Sat at home to Bishops Castle. With a win they can escape bottom place in the table. In April they will embark on a N Mids Vase campaign, with a hope their resurgence can be rewarded with some silver wear.

There was another entourage of mascots to escort the side onto the pitch, thanks to Noah, Caleb, Thea, Ruairi, Joshua, Louis, Jack, Ethan, Kingsley, Josh and Ollie for braved the bitter afternoon to watch their senior side win.
