Redditch RFC

LIQUIDATE

(HT 40-0)

Trinity Guild RFC

After a couple of weeks without a game Redditch were keen to get back on the pitch and get back to winning ways. They achieved both with style on Sat running in 8 tries and dominating a game that should build a lot of confidence after a coulple of dissapointing perfomances.

The opening phases were pretty even, both sides finding their feet, probing without much joy, until skipper Aaron Atkinson took the initiative and took a tap penalty near the half way line and caught the entire Trinity Guild defence napping, under the posts, 5-0. It wasn't long before former skipper Matt Allen went one better, winning the ball 60m out and outran the chasers for another under the posts. Not to be out done centre Jon Beale picked up a stray ball near his own 22m line and went the full length for the third score. Having converted these three tries Flyhalf Will Spires joined in with the long distance try runs with another 60m sprint which he also converted.

Despite the score being 28-0 it was by no means one way traffic, the packs were closely matched with plenty of competition up front, which brought its inevitable injuries which stretched out the first half. Replacements meant  a steady juggling of positions, but whether playing at 5 or 8 James Mathews was a solid rock around which the pack revolved. In second row with Dan Wilson the pack was solid, and with live wires Clarke Parker and Joe Looker in the back row they kept the opposition quiet.

It was ground gained by this combination that gave Matt Allen the room to barrel his way to a second try, and shortly before the break a wayward goal line drop out was retrieved by Aaron atkinson who glided in an arc through the defence who virtually stood applauding his audacity, under posts, try number 6 and a 40-0 lead.

The second half went off the boil a little, the visitors tightened their defence while Redditch switched some players around experimenting and resting some key players. Matt Allen scored his third try after another bout of sustained pressure. Trinity Guild were still not finished and had their best spell midway through the half, eventually being rewarded for their perseverance with a sniped try out wide following a series of thwarted drives.

Mathews rounded things off from a driven scrum that scattered the opposition pack. A just reward for Adams ,Platten and Mcdougall in the front row who had reamianed solid throughout .

This Sat The Kingfishers travel to Bishop's Castle, another opportunity to run in some more tries and turn the season around.
