Redditch RFC

A mixture of Redditch, DKs, Dixonians and Stourbridge players got together to support Redditch in a president's game against Stourport.

Stourport scored 3 quick tries in the opening ten minutes.  crashing the ball up the middle and dominating the scrum and leaving Redditch 15 - 0 down, despite defending heavily and making their tackles.

After a few on field changes position wise, as people got used to who they are playing with, Redditch started turning the pressure on. Even Jason Robinson was on form, catching anything that Stourport kicked in an attempt to clear their lines and running it back deep into their half. He told us that he now felt he had become a man.

After plenty of time in Stourports 22, Redditch had scored twice and converted to finish the half 15-14.

Shortly into the 2nd half Redditch lost Dafydd, Phil Lane and Fat baby to injury and had to play on with 12 men as Stourport scored again and converted to take a 22-14 lead.

Some good work from the Stourbridge and Dixonians forwards moved Redditch back into Stourport's 22, earning penalty after penalty as Stourport struggled to cope with the pressure. A good break from Redditch was converted bringing the game to 22-21 to Stourport with ten minutes remaining.

From the kick off, Redditch gathered well but we're turned over in their 22 but a poor kick give us the line out on the edge. A maul was set up and we broke from the back to go over to seal the win with a minute left in the clock despite playing most of the 2nd half three men down. This left the final score 26-22 in favour of the Redditch Barbarians.

A big thank you to the players who turned out from Dixonians, DK and Stourbridge who put club loyalties second to enjoy a great game of Rugby and help Stourport to celbrate their President's Day.

And a massive thanks to 2nd team skipper Loran who, once again, pulled out all stops to make sure that everyone who wanted a game had one.

Coarse Rugby is alive and well as the team below showed.
