With the heavy frost putting paid to their regular pitch this match took place on the unfamiliar slope. R had the slope to start with and used it to good effect, keeping the visitors pegged back in their own 22 for long spells util the deadlock was broken by Leo Fanthome scored on the right wing, Will Spires converting. The pressure was maintained with quick thinking backrow Stu Brookes taking a quick tap penalty and barging over the line.
R continued their dominance throughout the half, Player of the match James Mills kept his pack driving forward and kept his backs fed with plenty of possession. The home scrum capitalised on the gradient with a text book shove on the half hour, feinting blind Mills went open catching the defence flatfooted allowing room for Will S to dart through for the third try which he converted himself. Tom Maclarney scored the fourth rounding off a crisp passage of play on the left wing.
The second half was a tighter affair though mostly played in the Five Way's half, Connor Morris rounded off a determined attacking spell with a try in far right corner and Aaron Atkinson overlapped from fullback to score on the other side. R were the dominant side throughout but the FW defence put up a resilient performance and appeared to be a much better side than their league position would suggest. The punishing drives from the R pack wore down the visitors allowing the space for the home backs to run through them, all of the R pack paid their part in a fine overall performance.
Aaron Atkinson burst clear with good support fom Tom McLArney and Leo Fanthome.
