The final score did not reflect the effort R put in to this game , and the fact they finished with 13 men didn't help. But if ever a game swung on one pivotal moment then this was it.
An injury strewn first half ruined any chance of either side getting into a steady stream of play, both sides had men down, both sides put the ball down, it wasn't the most entertaining of games but it was a tight encounter once the ball was in play. M scored their only first half try eventually breaking through a stubborn defensive line from close range and finished off the half with a penalty kick to make it 0-10 and all to play for.
The injuries continued into the second half, play continued to be sporadic, but R were building some momentum. Mark Green broke the line and dashed to score, he was tackled inches short of his destination, a quick ruck ball was too quick for the support runner and the ball ran loose. M were first to react and ran 95m back up the pitch. The ultimate turning point, what was nearly 7-10 became an actual
0-17.
Within a minute they ran through for another. By now the injuries for R were piling up. gaps were appearing where bodies once stood and by the end three more tries had been scored under the posts and R were losing players at similar rate, finishing two men short, and two them were struggling!
Rob Clulee was awarded Player of the match, a solid determined performance. R have a weeks break before entertaining Bromyard II.
