A filthy wet, cold, misty afternoon was not the best setting for entertaining fluid rugby, but both sides got stuck in and at times defied the conditions with some slick skills.
Having to play on the 2nd team pitch, as the 1st team pitch hadn't drained sufficiently, brought the slope into play which Bromsgrove capitalised on better than R did.
R had the slope or the first half and despite fielding some fresh faces and some in fresh positions they held their own against the strong experienced visitors. R scored first, a break away run from Richey Beddard caught the defence flat footed, his offload to try scorer Sid Allen perfectly timed.
B struck back soon after when R old boy Gareth Davies levelled the scores which was converted, for a lead that lasted till the break.
Injuries dominated the second half, R lost their scrumhalf James Mills, which disrupted the rhythm of the back line with skipper Will Spires having to step onto the breach. It became scrappy, and B started to feed off the scraps despite being a man down due to injuries of their own. Using their speed and weight they were able to score three more tries and keep a competitive R at bay. A couple of late injuries to the visitors took their numbers below the permitted amount so the referee called the game off a few minute early,
No one complained , a hot shower was eagerly needed.
