The score line does not reflect the effort put in by R who had in their ranks half a dozen players who had only played as many first team games before this match. The difference between the sides was the sharpness of the visiting backs who, once through the gap, were hard to catch.

R's task was made harder by losing fullback Rory Allen early on to injury, and Tyler Monger later in the game, together with the inexperience across the side made for taxing afternoon.

Two first half tries and two more after the break effectively decided the result but at that point the home side started to click. Mills and Spires at half back found some gaps of their own and territorial kicks paid dividends. Lucas Bates led the way with some searching runs, one of which was rewarded with Sid Allen bursting over the line, Spires converting. 

 

Tries were then traded, R getting their second when Craig Martin hit a fine line following a superb run out of defence by Aaron Atkinson.
