Five Ways Old Edwardians FC

7 - 22

(HT 7-14)

Redditch RFC
Redditch were eventually rewarded for their enterprising style of rugby with a win at neighbours Five Ways OE. This week it all clicked, with the forwards and backs linking smoothly, the handling was confident and passing was accurate and when combined with the usual strong tackling display they were too strong for their hosts to handle.
From the start R pressured, slowly pushing FWOE into their own half and ultimately behind their own posts where a wayward pass was plucked from the air by Mickey Adams who simply had to fall to the ground to score, Will Spires kicking the conversion.
The game settled down to an even tussle in centre ground noted only for a injury to Cal Razzak, a victim of friendly fire clashing heads and coming off worst. Whilst R settled in to readjust their formation FWOE broke wide on the right and snatched a reply, converted to equalise.
Aaron Atkinson scored the second try rounding off a crisp passing move deep in the red zone giving the visitors a 7-12 lead at the break.
The second half saw a continuation of the confident work R were working on. Good support running meant off loading passes were going to hand not the floor. All the forwards played their part in running and driving hard with the ball or snuffing out any counter moves.
James Mills was accurate with his touch kicking, Spires kept the opposition constantly guessing where play was going next, Jon Beale made lots of ground from the centre, Rory Allen and Joe Morgan and Takunda Kahwa  were kept active interchanging positions in the back line.
WS slotted a penalty kick to give R a little cushion, until they were made more comfortable following a textbook lineout move which allowed Mitchell Ferris to break the defensive line and fed Matt Allen who ran powerfully under the posts to allow a simple kick for WS.
After last week's oh so close encounter, this victory restored confidence to the boys in blue who look forward to keeping it all moving this Sat for their first home game of the year welcoming Birmingham Exiles
