Redditch started brightly as they welcomed Trinity Guild to Bromsgrove Road for the first time in a number of years. They were rewarded with a rather dubious try where a big knock on was not observed by the man in the middle. 5 minutes later Trinity Guild’s clearing kick went straight to hand and the catcher ran over unopposed as the visitors just stood and watched, with the conversion by Wil Spires taking Redditch to a handy 12-0 lead.
The first of several penalties against the Kingfishers for high tackles saw Trinity take the 3 points on offer. It wasn’t to be the last Hight Tackle incident as Redditch were penalised again on 26 minutes. TG seized the chance and with a tap and run crossed for their first try of the afternoon while Redditch stood and watched on this occasion.
Redditch were using their forwards to good advantage with excellent interplay between the big men producing some rousing runs. 3 further tries came in the closing stages of the first half as the visitors seemed to wilt under the hot sun. The half time score favoured Redditch by 27-8.
After the break play was steady for a few minutes before Redditch once again took the advantage to score wide out. Just as the crowd were mentally chalking up a victory the visitors came back with two goals of their own taking the score to 32-22.
Stunned Redditch came back with a further score, but the visitors were not done yet and mounted several attacks against the Redditch Line. However a hight tackle to stop one attack resulted in a penalty try and yellow card which meant Redditch would see out the match with just 14 men. With a man down and the score at 37-29 Redditch defended grimly for the last 10 minutes before a turnover and breakaway try brought some respectability to the final score of 44-29.
Man of the match went to Tyler for his consistent tackling and attacking the breakdown, while captain Will Spires took the DOD by warmly welcoming Keresley!

Even though Scottie is still recuperating from back surgery the boys were refueling at half time - and boy did they need it in the last ten minutes - the 1%!
