Redditch RFC

23 - 37

(HT 0-20)

Droitwich RFC
This turned out to be a text book game of two halves. Droitwich scored their first rry within the first two minutes finding an overlap on the left wing. They were sharper, the handling crisper and they took their chances well running in two further tries in the first quarter and a penalty late on and looked set for a walk over victory. R however were not playing badly, they just seemed jaded and were frustrated that moves just didn't go to plan.
Their tackling was solid, a little too solid at times as Nathan Marthews was shown a yellow card for a tackle deemed to be too high. It was to their credit that no points were conceded whilst they were a man down.
At 0-20 at the break the coaching staff offered words of encouragement, R had the ability to turn the game around, they just needed the belief.
It worked, within minutes a R attack bore fruit, spinning the ball back and forth in the red zone was rewarded when Jon Beale found the try line. Soon afterwards the ever active Archie Beddard kicked through , Joe Morgan harrassed the final defender resulting in AB to dive on the loose ball to score himself, a try which he converted which was followed up with a penalty kick to bring the scores up to 15-20.
D were initially shell shocked about the sudden change in their hosts but recovered to score their bonus point try and keep their noses in front. R were not finished though, another kick for territory wasn't cleared up and in the ensuing melee Matt Allen managed to to touch down for a try which AB converted making the score 22- 27.
However any hopes or thoughts of a tense dramatic climax were quashed with a couple of late tries from the visitors.
R final match of the season takes place on April 6th away at Evesham.
