Warley RFC

29 - 8

(HT 17-3)

Redditch RFC
A disappointing afternoon for R under grey skies and drizzle. Their opening kick off was caught by Rory Allen who skipped around tacklers, made ground and fed the ball wide where it was dropped. This established a pattern of play for R, great enterprise, territory gained but ultimately basic errors let them down.
Warley are a streetwise team with experienced heads who used the ball more effectively and soon gained the upper hand. Swift hands returned a drop out kick with a try on the wing, followed up shortly afterwards with a steady forwards driving move that was rewarded with another try.
An Archie Beddard penalty kick kept R in touch though they went further behind from a tapped penalty move before the break.
Thoughts of a second half revival were quashed soon after the interval though they did not stop the fight. Will Heath made some telling tackles, James Mills and Will Spires mixed the game up in midfield, Heath and Cal Razzak ran some threatening lines and the forwards, as one, battled hard up front. But W were that little bit quicker and smarter and kept R at bay.
Injuries disrupted the flow of the game but R didn't give up despite conceding a fifth try from a basic line out catch a drive. Deep into the game Clarke Parker had the opportunity to score out wide but was tackled on the line and rewarded with a split eye for his troubles.
From an ensuing penalty drive W were reduced to 14 when a red card was shown to their no8 but
it was too late for R to take any meaningful advantage of the extra man though for the second week running Joe Morgan sprinted over the line from his wing to score with the last play of the match.
