Redditch RFC

Redditch opened their 60th Anniversary season in some style as everything went right in their derby match against near rivals Bromsgrove 3rds.

Man of the match Glyn Smith came in at standoff allowing Captain Will Spires to move to 12.  with Joe Morgan at 13 and Phoenix Mccann and Harry Rutter on the flanks Redditch had speed to burn.

With the forwrards competing well at the scrum and lineout Glyn Smith had a feast of quality ball allowing him to mix up the play and keep the defence guessing.

With a mixture of determined running, quick ball to Will Spires and judicious kicks the home defence were at sixes and sevens.

Will Spires appreciated the extra room and fed his speedsters who continued to run in some classic tries.

However Redditch were caught napping by a Bromsgrove quick tap resulting in them crossing unopposed. Something to work on as the season progresses.

The final score of 7-50 was enough to push Redditch to the top of the league table after the first round of matches.

For his great distribution, scoring a try and kicking 5 conversions Glyn was a worthy winner of the man of the match award, on a day when Joe Morgan's three tries were not enough to get the nod.
