Redditch Rugby Football Club Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct applies to all players, coaches, volunteers and committee members of Redditch Rugby Football Club (RRFC), referred to as ‘members’. Specific expectations for players and coaches are outlined in the appendices.
Members are required to conduct themselves in an appropriate way at all times whilst attending events linked to or representing RRFC. This includes, but not limited to:
- Training sessions
- Matches
- Team or committee meetings
- Any event where you are a representative of RRFC
- Use of the RRFC social media groups.
Members must conduct themselves in line with England Rugby’s values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.
RRFC is a fully inclusive Club and will not tolerate any inappropriate behaviour towards other members, opposition, game officials, supporters or anyone else within the rugby environment. This includes:
- Physical or verbal abuse
- Discrimination of any kind, including that related to race, religion, sex, disability or sexual orientation
- Harassment or bullying.
If any member believes they, or another member, is not being treated in line with or another member is not acting in line with the Code of Conduct, please speak to the Welfare Officer or Club Chairman. If you do not feel comfortable speaking to either of these, please speak to the Redditch Rugby Football Club Safeguarding Officer. Where inappropriate behaviour is confirmed, the appropriate action will be taken by RRFC.
Appendix 1 - PLAYER’S CODE
Players should:
- Recognise and appreciate the efforts made by others in providing the opportunity to play the game and enjoy the rugby environment
- Train regularly to meet the demands of the game
- Take responsibility for their own health and fitness, and say when they are injured
- Be attentive at all training and coaching sessions
- Be on time for all training events and games
- Win with dignity, lose with grace
- Play to the Laws of the game and accept, without question, all referees’ decision, even if they appear to make a mistake
- Control their emotions - verbal or physical abuse of others is not acceptable • Treat all players, as they would like to be treated themselves
- Reply to availability requests in a timely manner and update their response, should this change for any reason
- Speak up if they see inappropriate behaviours
- Pay their subs on time and in accordance with membership requirements.
Appendix 2 - COACHES’ CODE
Coaches of players should:
- Recognise the importance of fun and enjoyment when coaching players • Appreciate the needs of the players before the needs of the sport • Be a positive role model
- Keep winning and losing in perspective – encourage players to behave with dignity in all circumstances
- Respect all referees and the decisions they make, even if they appear to make a mistake and expect that the players recognise that they must do the same
- Provide feedback on playing, training and selection in a constructive manner • Provide rugby experiences which are matched to the players’ abilities • Ensure all players are coached in a safe environment
- Never allow a player to train or play when injured.
- Ensure their knowledge and coaching strategies are up to date • Receive coaching feedback graciously and implement any required changes • Speak up if they see inappropriate behaviours
- Display good organisational and time keeping skills.
